I’ve been thinking a lot about this collection.
Probably more than I thought I would.
When I first started CalmHaus, I was thinking about sensory clothing. I was thinking about regulation, comfort, and creating things that might make everyday life a little easier.
But the more I’ve learnt, the more I’ve realised it’s so much bigger than that.
And I think that’s why this next collection feels different.
CALMHAUS: THE UNFILTERED COLLECTION — FOR MINDS THAT DON’T DO ORDINARY.
I know that sounds like quite a big statement.
But there’s a reason behind it.
I wanted to create something for the people who feel like they’re constantly having to explain themselves.
For the people who feel unseen or unheard.
For the people who have spent years being misunderstood.
And especially for those who have had a late diagnosis and suddenly found themselves looking back at their whole life through a completely different lens.
Because getting a diagnosis doesn’t necessarily mean everything suddenly becomes clear.
Sometimes it actually gives you even more to think about.
You might finally understand why certain things have always been difficult, but then you’re left wondering how on earth you explain that to everyone else.
And there’s something I really don’t think we talk about enough.
That feeling of being told you’re looking for a label.
Or that you’re attention seeking.
When actually, you might have spent years doing the complete opposite.
Hiding things.
Masking.
Trying to fit in.
Trying not to be “too much”.
Trying to understand why things that seem so easy for everyone else can feel completely overwhelming for you.
Then you finally get an answer and suddenly some people question that answer.
I think that can be incredibly difficult.
And I think there are so many people still trying to find the language to explain their diagnosis, even after they’ve received one.
Sometimes you know what you’re experiencing, but you just don’t know how to put it into words.
Sometimes you need someone else to understand without you having to give them a ten-minute explanation.
And sometimes you just want people to listen.
That’s really where the idea for The Unfiltered Collection came from.
It’s not about trying to make people stand out.
Actually, I think it’s the opposite.
It’s about being understood.
The boldness isn’t there because we want attention.
It’s there because sometimes being visible can make communication a little easier.
And this isn’t just for the person with the diagnosis either.
It’s for the friend who is trying to understand.
The family member who wants to learn.
The partner.
The colleague.
The person who knows someone who has recently been diagnosed and genuinely wants to support them but doesn’t really know where to start.
Because I think understanding has to work both ways.
We need spaces where people can say, “This is what I need,” without feeling embarrassed about it.
And we also need people around us who are willing to listen and learn.
So that’s what I’m hoping this collection can be about.
Not just clothes.
Not just sensory pieces.
But a little bit of support, community and understanding.
I’m going to be sharing more of it throughout this week and, honestly, I’m really excited (and slightly nervous!) to show you.
Because there’s a lot of thought behind these pieces.
A lot of feeling.
And probably a little bit of me in them too.
So, if you’re someone who has ever felt misunderstood…
If you’re still figuring things out after diagnosis…
If you’re supporting someone who is…
Or if you simply recognise that feeling of being a little bit different and never quite knowing how to explain it…
I hope you’ll stick around this week.
This one is for you.
CALMHAUS: THE UNFILTERED COLLECTION.
For minds that don’t do ordinary.
And maybe that’s not such a bad thing after all.
