If you had told me a year ago that I’d be starting a clothing brand, I would have laughed.
I have no fashion degree. No experience running a business. No background in website development, marketing, social media, or e-commerce. My only design experience comes from GCSEs many years ago.
Yet here I am.
Because CalmHaus isn’t something I started because I saw a gap in the market. I started it because my family and I need it.
Like many people with sensory sensitivities, anxiety, ADHD, autism, and other neurodivergent experiences, I’ve spent years struggling with clothing that most people never think twice about. Scratchy fabrics. Tight necklines. Uncomfortable seams. Clothing that feels fine to everyone else but can completely ruin your day.
When you’re already dealing with a busy mind, the last thing you need is clothing adding to the overwhelm.
I searched for clothes that felt right. Clothes that were comfortable, calming, and made for people like us. Sometimes I found pieces that worked, but often they were expensive, hard to find, or simply didn’t feel like something I’d actually want to wear every day.
So eventually, I stopped asking why nobody was making them and started asking:
“What if I tried?”
That’s how CalmHaus was born.
Not from expertise.
Not from experience.
But from necessity.
Every decision we’ve made so far has been guided by one simple question:
“Would this help us?”
Because we’re not creating clothing for a community we don’t understand. We’re part of that community ourselves.
We need these clothes just as much as you do.
We’re learning as we go. Every website page, every product description, every social media post, every design decision has been a lesson. There have been mistakes, frustrations, and plenty of moments where we’ve had no idea what we’re doing.
But we’ve kept going because we believe people deserve clothing that feels as good as it looks.
Today marks a huge milestone for us.
