One of the questions we get asked most is, “Why CalmHaus?”
The answer starts long before the brand existed.
My husband is a graphic designer, and his business is called Matthaus Design. Years ago he lived in Germany, and ever since then we’ve both had a real love for the country, its design, its culture and even the language. So when it came to naming this brand, we knew we wanted a small nod to that part of our story.
But CalmHaus became so much more than just a name.
To us, CalmHaus is an idea.
It’s the feeling we’re all searching for.
Everyone deserves a calm home. A place where the world quietens down. A place where you can take the mask off after a long day. Somewhere you don’t have to explain yourself, pretend you’re coping, or force yourself to keep being productive.
Home should be your haven.
Your safe place.
The place where you regulate, regenerate and recharge.
It’s okay to rest. It’s okay to find joy in ordinary moments. Whether you live on your own, with your partner, or in a busy house full of children, everyone deserves a space that feels peaceful.
For many neurodivergent adults and children, that isn’t always easy. Life can be loud, overwhelming and unpredictable.
We can’t promise to create a perfectly calm house.
But we can help create moments of calm within it.
That has always been the mission behind CalmHaus.
After I was diagnosed with postpartum depression, anxiety and ADHD, I realised just how much of my life was spent feeling overwhelmed. I made a promise to myself that, wherever possible, I wanted to create more calm in my everyday life.
Around that time we visited Hamburg and stood outside the beautiful Rathaus. I remember thinking about how many moments in my day were filled with anxiety. The flight. The train journey. Busy crowds. Loud environments. Everyday situations that most people never think twice about.
As I learnt more about ADHD and sensory regulation, I discovered that fidgets weren’t “just for children.” They were genuine tools that could help adults regulate too.
That sparked a question.
What if those tools didn’t have to be carried separately?
What if they were built into the clothing you already wore every day?
What if your hoodie could become a safe place?
That’s where our Fidget Hoodie was born.
A soft, sensory-friendly hoodie designed to bring comfort wherever life takes you. Somewhere to keep your favourite fidgets close by. A safe place for your phone, your keys, your shopping coin, or even that tiny piece of paper with the important phone number you don’t want to lose.
Not because stimming should be hidden.
But because having what you need, exactly when you need it, can make overwhelming moments feel just a little more manageable.
Whether you’re commuting to work, sitting in a lecture, travelling on a train, taking the children to school or simply trying to make it through a difficult day, we wanted to create clothing that works with you, not against you.
That’s what CalmHaus means to us.
